The feed machining route of NC lathe refers to the path from the tool setting point (or the fixed origin of the machine tool) to returning to the point and ending the machining program, including the cutting path and the non cutting empty travel path such as tool cut in and cut out.

The feed route of finish machining is basically carried out along the contour of its parts. Therefore, the focus of determining the feed route is to determine the feed route of rough machining and empty stroke.

In NC lathe machining, the determination of machining route should generally follow the following principles.

① The accuracy and surface roughness of the machined workpiece shall be ensured.

② Make the processing route shortest, reduce the empty travel time and improve the processing efficiency.

③ Try to simplify the workload of numerical calculation and simplify the processing program.

④ For some reusable programs, subroutines should be used.
